Child Custody Evaluation
Forensic Mental Health Evaluations
Going through a divorce is stressful and often a very lengthy process. To assist families and the legal system, we offer Child Custody Evaluation (CCE) completed by a Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator. Child custody evaluations are ordered by Judges or legal representatives. CCE include interviews with both parents or interested potential future legal guardians, children 6 years of age or older and observation of parent/legal guardian with child/ren. An evaluator might request to interview additional family members or non-relatives who may have relevant information about the family dynamic. Collateral information for the minimum of past 5 years; including criminal history, mental health and substance use treatment records may be requested for all family members involved in child custody. Family members can expect to participate in variety of screening and testing that lead to objective determination serving the best interest of children.
Forensic Mental Health Evaluation (FMHE) and Parental Fitness Assessments (PFA) utilize variety of screening tools and tests with main focus on Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders, risk for ongoing violence (if applicable), and the ability to provide adequate care for minor child/ren. FMHE and PFA are most commonly requested by the Alaska Court System, the Office of Children Services, private Attorneys and are completed by Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluators. FMHE and PFA include detailed interview with identified client, interviews with relevant parties, and detailed review of collateral information for the minimum of the past 5 years. FMHE and PFA will result in written reports (usually 10+ pg.) within 14-30 days (depends on collaboration of relevant parties and the ability to receive necessary collateral documents). FMHE and PFA are paid by the referring party, FMHE or PFA are not reimbursable by any health insurance at this time.
